Your journey begins with an early departure from Marrakech, crossing the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m). Along the way, you’ll stop at Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed Kasbah and a famous filming location for movies like Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After exploring this ancient village, continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Morocco.” Here, you can visit Taourirt Kasbah and the Atlas Film Studios. The journey then takes you through the picturesque Valley of Roses and the Skoura Oasis before reaching Dades Valley, where you’ll spend the night in a charming Kasbah-style hotel.
After breakfast, drive through the dramatic Dades Valley, known for its stunning rock formations. Continue to Todra Gorge, a paradise for rock climbers and nature lovers. After exploring the gorge, the journey takes you to Erfoud, famous for its fossil workshops and bustling date markets. In the afternoon, arrive at Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert. Today is dedicated to exploring Fes, Morocco’s spiritual and cultural capital. A guided tour will take you through the maze-like Fes Medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Highlights include Al-Qarawiyyin University, the world’s oldest university, the stunning Bou Inania Medersa, and the vibrant Chouara Tannery, where traditional leather dyeing techniques are still in use. You’ll also visit Bab Boujloud (The Blue Gate) and wander through the colorful souks filled with artisans and merchants. In the evening, enjoy authentic Fassi cuisine before returning to your riad.
Leaving Fes, you’ll drive to Meknes, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. Here, visit the impressive Bab Mansour, Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, and El Hedim Square. A short drive brings you to Volubilis, a remarkably well-preserved Roman archaeological site with intricate mosaics and grand columns. After exploring the ruins, continue to Rabat, Morocco’s capital city.
