Activity Details
Your adventure begins in Fez, the spiritual heart of Morocco, as you drive southward into the Middle Atlas Mountains. The road winds through cedar forests and picturesque landscapes, passing the charming town of Ifrane, often called "Little Switzerland," and the lively Berber market town of Azrou.
As you ascend into the High Atlas, the scenery transforms into rugged terrain dotted with remote villages. By evening, you'll arrive in Imilchil, a peaceful Berber village nestled in the mountains. Known for its legendary lakes of Isli and Tislit, said to have been formed by the tears of star-crossed lovers, Imilchil is a haven of tranquility. Spend the night in a cozy mountain lodge, savoring a hearty traditional dinner under the starlit sky.
Wake to the crisp mountain air and the sound of nature as you set off on a short drive to Agoudal, one of the highest villages in Morocco. The journey takes you through winding mountain passes and valleys, offering awe-inspiring views of the High Atlas peaks.
Agoudal is a remote and authentic Berber village where time seems to stand still. Explore its ancient kasbahs, meet the warm and welcoming locals, and immerse yourself in their traditional way of life. The nearby caves, carved into the rocky cliffs, are fascinating to explore. As the sun sets, settle into a simple yet charming guesthouse and enjoy a traditional Berber tagine by the fire.
On this day, you’ll descend from the mountains into the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley, often called the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs." En route, you’ll pass through narrow gorges and barren plateaus, with the scenery shifting to vibrant hues of ochre and red.
The Dades Gorge itself is a masterpiece of nature, with towering rock formations sculpted by millennia of erosion. Take time to explore the gorge, hike its trails, and marvel at the famous “Monkey Fingers” rock formations. Spend the night in a charming riad overlooking the valley, where you'll dine on local delicacies and listen to tales of Berber folklore.
After breakfast, continue your journey towards the Sahara Desert, passing through the lush oasis of Tinghir and the dramatic Todgha Gorge, with its sheer cliffs that seem to scrape the sky. The landscape begins to shift, with arid plains giving way to the golden dunes of Merzouga.
Upon arrival, you’ll trade your vehicle for a camel and trek into the towering dunes of the Erg Chebbi. As the sun dips below the horizon, the dunes glow in hues of gold and crimson, creating a surreal and unforgettable landscape. Spend the night in a luxurious desert camp, where you’ll enjoy a traditional Moroccan feast, live Berber music, and a sky filled with countless stars.
Your final day begins with an unforgettable sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you’ll leave the desert behind and journey back towards Fez. The route takes you through the Ziz Valley, famous for its lush palm groves and ancient ksars, and over the Middle Atlas Mountains once more.
As you approach Fez, the memories of your journey—majestic mountains, serene oases, dramatic gorges, and the magic of the Sahara—will linger in your heart. Arrive back in Fez by evening, completing your circle through Morocco’s most captivating landscapes.
